New York City Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia can be broken down into a number of categories. True gynecomastia is a condition in which the gland tissue of the breast is excessive. Pseudo Gynecomastia, or False Gynecomastia, is the result of excess fat in the breast.
The treatment for the two varies. For somebody who’s breast tissue has enlarged as a result of excess fat, liposuction alone will often be sufficient therapy for that patient. For people who have gland tissue exclusively, the operation would involve excision of the tissue through a small incision at the lower portion of the areola. In some patients, both excess gland tissue and excess fat are present, and in these cases, both liposuction and the excisional approach should be performed.
Gynecomastia surgery is performed in our accredited office-based surgical facility. The recovery following this procedure is usually limited to a few days. Light activity can be begun the day following the surgery, and gradually increased in the following week. Following 2 weeks, one can resume most physical activity that had been performed prior to surgery. Patients typically wear a compressive vest for a number of weeks to minimize swelling and have the skin conform to the reduced volume of tissue beneath it.
Patients are usually quite happy with the results after gynecomastia surgery. Some patients who had been unwilling to expose their chest on the beach feel a new freedom, and often more confidence as a result of it.
