Juvederm

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is Juvederm?
A. Juvederm is a cosmetic dermal gel filler that restores fullness to the skin to instantly correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds ("parentheses" wrinkles between the nose and mouth) and laugh lines.

Q. What is Juvederm made of?
A. Juvederm is a smooth consistency dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Juvederm injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective for persons of color.

Q. How does Juvederm work?
A. As you get older, your face may lose some of its fullness, causing wrinkles and folds. Juvederm restores that fullness and provides a smoother appearance to the face.

Q. How long does Juvederm last?
A. The average treatment results last six months or longer. Touch-up injections injections are usually needed to maintain optimal results.

Q. How long does treatment usually take?
A. The injection process takes only about 15 minutes, and effects are immediate. You'll also need to allow time to consult with Dr. Zevon prior to treatment.

Q. How is Juvederm different from other hyaluronic acid-based products?
A. Juvederm provides the highest concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any currently available hyaluronic acid dermal filler. Unlike other forms of hyaluronic acid, cross-linked hyaluronic acid is a smooth consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel. All other currently approved hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are made of granular consistency gels. Also, Juvederm is the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has demonstrated its safety and effectiveness in persons of color.

Q. Is any of the material left in the skin after Juvederm is degraded?
A. No. Because Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally produced by our bodies, Juvederm is slowly reabsorbed into the body, leaving absolutely no injected material in the body.

Q. Are there any side effects?
A. As with any injection, some common injection related reactions might occur. The most common side effects are usually mild to moderate, lasting 7 days or less and include temporary injection site reactions like redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps.

Q. Is Juvederm approved by the FDA?
A. Yes. Juvederm is FDA approved for use in the U.S.

Q. Do Juvederm injections hurt?
A. Juvederm is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. To optimize your comfort during the short procedure, Dr. Zevon may apply topical anesthesia to the treatment area.
